How to make a GIF from images
- 1
Add images, a GIF, or a video
Choose or drop JPG, PNG, WEBP, or any other image your browser can open, or paste one from the clipboard. Each image becomes one frame, sorted by file name. An animated GIF is split into its frames with their original timing, and for a video you pick the clip to use.
- 2
Arrange, caption, and crop
Drag frames into order and set the speed. Add text and drag it into place, crop or rotate every frame at once. The preview plays the animation as you change it.
- 3
Download the GIF
Pick a size and background, then click Download GIF. The animated GIF is encoded on your device and saved right away, with no watermark.
Everything you need for an animated GIF
Want a product or a person to move over a clean background? Cut them out first with our background remover, then add the transparent PNGs here.
Frame order and speed
Reorder frames by dragging, sort them by file name, or reverse them. Set the delay from 20 ms to 2 seconds per frame.
Edit an existing GIF
Drop in an animated GIF to split it into frames with their original timing, then caption, crop, rotate, speed up, slow down, or trim it.
Video to GIF
Drop in an MP4, MOV, or WebM, pick the start and end, the frame rate, and the speed, and the clip becomes frames you can edit like any other.
Add text to your GIF
Add as many captions as you like, in a classic meme font or four others, with any fill and outline color. Drag each one into place and choose which frames it appears on.
Crop and rotate
Crop every frame at once, freely or to 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, or 9:16. Rotate the GIF by 90° or flip it horizontally or vertically, for sideways phone photos or mirrored selfies.
Forward, reverse, or boomerang
Play the frames as they are, backwards, or forward and then back again for a seamless loop. Loop forever, or play once, twice, or three times.
Any size and shape
Keep the shape of your first image or choose square, 4:3, 16:9, or vertical 9:16, up to 1000 px wide. Images of another shape are fitted, filled, or stretched.
Transparent or colored background
Keep transparent PNGs transparent, or put every frame on white, black, or any color you pick.
Control the file size
Use fewer colors, turn off dithering, or share one palette across all frames for a smaller GIF that loads faster in chats and on web pages.
Private by design
The GIF is made in your browser, so your images are never uploaded. There's no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many GIFs you make.
GIF creator FAQ
How do I make a GIF from pictures?
Add the pictures above, put them in the order you want, and set the frame delay: 100–200 ms feels like motion, 500 ms–1 s works for a slideshow. Then click Download GIF.
How do I add text to a GIF?
Click Add text, type your caption, and drag it on the preview to where you want it. Pick a font, size, fill color, and outline. Under Show on frames, choose the first and last frame it appears on, so captions can change during the animation; the frame arrows under the preview help you find the right frame.
How do I crop or rotate the GIF?
Under Rotate & crop, use the rotate and flip buttons, or click Crop and drag the box or its corners on the preview, then click Done. Rotation, flipping, and cropping apply to every frame. Text stays upright and is placed on the cropped result.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The images are decoded and the GIF is encoded inside your browser, in a background thread on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, so the tool also works with private photos.
Does the GIF have a watermark?
No. The GIF contains only your images, at the size you chose.
How many images can I use?
Up to 150 frames on a computer and 60 on a phone or tablet, each up to 20MB. Longer GIFs get large quickly; for long clips a video format is usually a better fit.
Why are the colors slightly different in the GIF?
A GIF frame can only hold 256 colors, so photos are reduced to their 256 most important colors. Dithering mixes nearby colors to hide the banding this causes in gradients and skies. If colors flicker between frames, turn on One palette for all frames.
Can a GIF have a transparent background?
Yes, but each pixel is either fully transparent or fully solid, with nothing in between. Soft or anti-aliased edges become hard, and can show a light or dark fringe. For smoother edges, pick a background color that matches the page or chat where the GIF will be shown.
What's the fastest speed a GIF can play at?
GIF frame delays are stored in hundredths of a second, and most browsers play any delay under 20 ms at 100 ms instead. That's why the shortest delay here is 20 ms, or 50 frames per second.
How do I make the GIF file smaller?
Reduce the width, use fewer frames, choose 128 or 64 colors, turn off dithering, and turn on One palette for all frames. Halving the width cuts the file size to roughly a quarter.
Can I edit an existing animated GIF?
Yes. Add the GIF and it's split into its frames, keeping each frame's original delay, size, and transparency. Then add text, crop, rotate, reorder or delete frames, reverse it, or make it a boomerang. To change its speed, turn off Keep the original timing and set one delay for every frame. Animated WEBP and PNG files work the same way in browsers that can read their frames.
